Teeth whitening

  • In the Office:

One hour is just enough for teeth up to eight shades more White.

In our clinic usually Opalescence Boost is used, a whitening gel enhanced with 40% hydrogen peroxide. Unique mixing by syringe to syringe ensures freshness in each application and the exact dose of the accelerator to provide the most effective product available.

Bleaching stages in the clinic:

The original color of the patientis chosen from the color chart.
The final desired result is discussed with the doctor and a decision is taken.

Photos are taken at the beginning of the procedure.

The whitening process begins with the isolation of soft tissue to avoid sensitivity. The color is controled every 20 minutes.

Photos are taken at the end of treatment.

The result is always Ideal and with the patient’s wishes.

  • At home:

We use individual trays that we wear for a few hours a day for less than two weeks.
The outcome is always a brilliant, bright smile.

Frequent questions

How does bleaching work?

The whitening process is possible due to the ability of the carbamide peroxide and hydrogen peroxide to freely pass through enamel and dentin and to permeate to all parts of the tooth. These peroxides break down into oxygen radicals, which migrate between the enamel prisms, breaking down any colored molecules that result in tooth discoloration. The structure of the tooth is not altered; the internal tooth color is simply made lighter.Whitening agents break down into tiny molecules and move in all directions, so even if the entire tooth is not covered with gel, the entire tooth is whitened.Numerous studies have proven the effectiveness of peroxides in whitening teeth. Enamel, dentin, existing fillings, and bonding materials are not harmed by the whitening materials.

Will whitening affect bond strength?

Even though whitening agents release a great amount of oxygen into the tooth, existing bonds are not weakened.If whitening before bonding, allow a period of 7–10 days after whitening. The high concentration of oxygen in the tooth could significantly and adversely affect polymerization of the resins.

Will bleaching weaken the tooth’s enamel?

Opalescence tooth whitening gel contains PF (potassium nitrate and fluoride). Potassium nitrate has been shown to help reduce sensitivity. Fluoride has been shown to help reduce caries and strengthen enamel. Together they help to improve the overall health of the teeth.

Do you think that the whitening is safe and effective and has certain restrictions;

Tooth whitening is the most simple, conservative, non-invasive therapy which can improve the color of the teeth of our patients. After thousands of clinical and laboratory research worldwide, we can now say that the bleaching is a safe and effective procedure. After long-term monitoring of patients found that there was no need for endodontic treatment, there was no internal or external resorption dental tissues, there was no tooth sensitivity beyond the normal range and generally no significant change in dental tissues occurs. Also, the growth of cancerous lesions were found in the language or other damage to the soft tissues of the mouth. They certainly stand provided use of materials, systems and techniques have been investigated both for safety and for their effectiveness. Since the decomposition of bleaching agents in the mouth the final resulting products water and oxygen.

Do you think that bleaching with the use of special light or laser systems are more efficient;

In general, we could say that the use of special light or laser systems during bleaching in the clinic is not necessary nor lead to better results. Worldwide, there are no statistically significant clinical findings demonstrate that the use of LED lighting (including laser) can improve or increase the bleaching effect.
Using illumination lamp during bleaching in practice causes dehydration of the teeth, giving a false picture and making the teeth appear whiter. The teeth will lose most of their brightness, and recover moisture at very short time. Finally, we must say that the use of light can create one heat of things in the teeth, increases the sensitivity of the teeth and if not done careful handling can cause permanent damage to the teeth.

How long can be the bleaching results and what bleaching agents;

Curing time of the whitening effect depends on the method that we follow but mainly by using colors that will make the patient after bleaching. Usually the whitening effect is maintained 1-3 years. More specifically, in a survey it found that the bleaching results are maintained at 90% the first year, 62% at 3 years and 35% at 7 years. The patients using bleaching splint have the important advantage that can make booster doses (one every 6 months or 1 per year for two days) and thus retain their color at a very good level for a longer period.
Regarding bleaching agents for bleaching in the clinic would recommend bleaching system with hydrogen peroxide and without use of the lamp, a light or thermal energy. For bleaching splints would recommend carbamide peroxide mainly 10% and sometimes 15%.
